10 years of developing a smallholding

Without the permaculture design skills there's no way I would have come up with a well organised, integrated plan for my farm.

Not Just the site

When we do land design we have to think of many layers of systems - like the guilds around our fruit trees, or the people around the project that help us. We are operating on many levels all at once. Learning how to design our farm or small holding is vital to counter the potential overwhelm.

How will we earn revenue?

Developing our site is also about revenue and interacting with our local and other communities. This is all part of the plan.

On the farm design weekend we will think about how to integrate all that we want in our projects and how to go about planning and implementing what we will need.

Designing with Nature

Permaculture is all about sustainable design

Designing is really about taking a step back and thinking things through — asking the right questions so your project works with nature. When we do that, we understand our space better and come up with ideas that actually work in real life.

In permaculture, design is at the heart of everything. It’s not just about what plants you grow or how your garden looks, but how it all functions — how you build soil, catch rainwater, use your resources wisely, and create something that’s productive and low-impact.

The kind of design I help with is about making your garden or project truly sustainable — a space that fits you, your lifestyle, and the land around you. We look at how to make the best use of what you’ve got so everything flows and supports itself naturally.

It’s great if you’re starting fresh or just need a bit of help and inspiration to get things moving again.

Why design?

🌿 Design with Intention

When we take the time to design, we can be more intentional — creating spaces and projects that truly work well. In permaculture, we use practical frameworks and guiding principles that help us shape how we interact with the world and with nature.

Why achieve a PDC?

🌿 Accredited Permaculture Teaching

Not all permaculture teachers can issue certificates — but I’m one of the qualified few who can!

Completing a Permaculture Design Course (PDC) means you can officially call yourself a permaculture designer. It’s a valuable qualification to add to your skill set — whether you’re growing a garden, developing a business, running community projects, or managing land. Permaculture design can enrich and strengthen all kinds of work and life paths - creating harmony in what we do.
